Matrix & Matzah

Coming to UCLA from Chicago, I had no family in Los Angeles. Actually, none West of the Mississippi. So Shana would bring me home for holidays. Passover, Rosh Hashanah, and sometimes just for a meal. Her family made me feel like part of their family. That went for Ronit & Jason, too. Even when Shana moved East, I continued to spend holidays with her family, and when she was in town, we'd all visit. One year, during Passover, Shana & I stayed at her brother's condo. We made matzah pizza for dinner and all went to see the first Matrix together. Nothing crazy happened that night, there's no hilarious punchline, and for those of you who haven't seen the movie, I won't tell you what happens to Neo. But I will tell you that being thousands of miles away from my own brothers that night, Jason stepped in acted like my adopted big brother. He was so warm and kind. And now, thinking of his magnetic smile and adventurous spirit, he's still someone to look up. I'll think of him as I try to live life to the fullest - and also any time I see a Keanu Reeves' film. Miss you, Jason. Carin
